We started our morning at Dunkin with a breakfast sandwich and a free donut as today was National Donut day....off to a good start. Then we spent the rest of the morning biking Marquette's "Rails to Trails", specifically 15 miles (roundtrip) along the shore of Lake Superior. The temperature along the shore was a perfect 68 degrees and the scenery was spectacular.
Located on the shore of Lake Superior, Marquette, MI is the largest city in the UP and the home of the Northern Michigan University Wildcats. Lake Superior is the largest and cleanest of the 5 Great Lakes. It is the largest fresh water lake in the world by surface area and the third largest by volume, holding 10% of the world's surface fresh water.
After a demanding ride, we celebrated Karla's birthday with lunch at a local downtown Marquette restaurant followed by a restful late afternoon. We are now boondocking in Gwinn, MI for the night. Tomorrow we continue our travels south eventually returning to Cincinnati sometime next week.
Please stay tuned for additional blog updates. We look forward to seeing each and everyone of you soon. And as always, (we are) coming to a driveway near you. Take care!
