Nick of Time Escape - And now back home in Sedona!

Good Evening Everyone!  On Thursday Karla and I departed Carpinteria, CA and headed for the San Bernardino mountains.  We knew we had to be on the east side of the mountains to elude the Southern California blizzard....their worst winter storm in 30 years.  It was a very long day of driving but we arrived at the Chiriaco Summit at nightfall on Thursday, just east of the San Bernardino mountains, where we boon-docked for the night.  The storm slammed Southern California Friday morning with blizzard condition throughout the entire region.

On Friday, we traveled into Arizona and boon-docked at Wickenburg Country Club.  This is a restful and fun Harvest Host location providing a nice restaurant with live entertainment.  Karla and I spent Saturday taking in the Cincinnati Reds Spring Training Opening Day game (vs. Cleveland Guardians).  Beautiful sunshine and warm temperatures made for a perfect day.

Today we arrived home in Sedona capping a fun and exciting excursion that was not possible without RVMakes3.  We look forward to our next adventure.....maybe sometime in April.

I hope this blog post finds you well.  Karla and I look forward to seeing each and everyone of you soon.  And as always, (we are) coming to a driveway near you.  Take Care!

On The Beach in Carpinteria, CA

Good Evening All.  On Sunday, Karla and I arrived in Carpinteria, CA where RVMakes3 is boon-docked on the sand beach-side.  Carpinteria is a small seaside town that is know as the "World's Safest Beach".  We spent 3 days walking the beach, enjoying the sunsets, perusing the small town, and biking along the coast.  The weather has been sunny but cool.

Tomorrow we plan to travel south in search of (hopefully) warmer weather.  Please stay tuned for destinations.  I hope this blog post finds you happy and healthy.  We look forward to seeing each and everyone of you soon.  And as always, (we are) coming to a driveway near you.  Take care!

Survived Mojave Desert Sand Storm

On Tuesday, Karla and I traveled across the Mojave Desert to Barstow, CA.  It was 150 or so miles of brown-out (sand storm) conditions....little to no visibility.  After many hours of slow navigation, we arrived at our destination in Barstow, CA. where we relaxed and refreshed RVMakes3.  While in Barstow, we walked to a nearby Ghost Town in Calico, CA.  A mining town (silver) in the late 1800s that is no longer (pic below).

Thursday we headed west to Fillmore, CA where we boon-docked at Giessinger Winery (Harvest Host).  The winery is very active with other "Harvest Hosters" and live entertainment each day.  Fillmore is a small city in Ventura county California famous for its' many orange groves.  The historic downtown, established when the Southern Pacific built the railroad through the valley in 1887, is quaint with an assortment of restaurants, pubs, and variety stores.  Karla and I enjoyed our time walking and biking the various paved paths throughout the town, and dining in the fun restaurants and pubs.

Tomorrow we travel towards Ventura, CA where we plan to stay several days on the beach, specifically Carpinteria State Beach .  Karla is doing well and enjoying the weather and activity.  I am so thankful for that.  I hope this blog post finds you well.  We look forward to seeing each and everyone of you soon.  And as always, (we are) coming to a driveway near you.  Take care!

On Our Way - Death Valley National Park

Good Evening All.  It has been about 3 months since my last blog post.  I hope you are doing well.  Karla and I spent the holidays in beautiful Sedona, AZ hiking, golfing, and enjoying time with friends and neighbors.  Late January, we traveled back to Ohio for our quarterly medical visits.  Good News!  There appears to be no new developments.  So, we flew back to Sedona and prepared for our next RVMakes3 excursion.

Friday we made final preparations on RVMakes3 and Saturday we "shoved off".  Unbeknownst to us, Ellie, our dear friend and neighbor, caught Karla and me working diligently fastening our bikes to RVMakes3 (pic below.  LOL).  You can never be too thorough.

Saturday afternoon we arrived at The Revere Golf Club in Henderson, NV for the night (Harvest Host).  We were perched at the the end of the parking lot overlooking the Las Vegas strip.  It was a nice and quiet stop for the night.

Sunday we arrived at Death Valley National Park where we boon-docked for 2 days.  Death Valley National Park is a vast, grand, and eclectic landscape.  It is approximately 3.2 million acres of federally designated wilderness and the hottest place on earth with a recorded temperature of 134 degrees F.  It is also the driest US national park.  It features 11,000 foot peaks (Panamint mountains) and the Badwater basin at 282 feet below sea level (the lowest point in North America).  There are 11 plant species and 23 animal species that are found only within the boundaries of Death Valley National Park.

Karla and I spent our time hiking and exploring the environment.  We experienced the views from Zabriskie point, hiked the vast salt flats of the Badwater Basin, and toured the old Harmony Borax Works, where borax was mined in the late 1800s.

We continue our journey west towards the California coast on Wednesday.  Please stay tuned to this blog for updates.  Karla and I look forward to seeing each and everyone of you soon.  And as always, (we are) coming to a driveway near you.
